Ethical Considerations At Hand It May Preserve The Company...

The intent of this paper is to critically analyze ethical considerations to support whether or not to report small errors to higher management. On the one hand it may preserve the company’s business and reputation; on the other hand it may affect potential advancement opportunities for the employee in question. The issue at hand is determining whether or not newly hired Ben should notify his supervisor and CFO of small errors found after sending the reports he created for them. Since this is a recurrent issue, the problem is that by doing so, he runs the risk of jeopardizing his position. There is an underlying condition, which consists in distinguishing between small and critical errors. Similarly to this definition, the definition of a â€Å"small error† begs a number of questions: - Where do these errors come from? - What is Ben’s proficiency in Microsoft Excel? - Can anyone outside the company audit the company’s books? Ben is conflicted as to how to handle errors found in his work because it may jeopardize either his job, or the future of the entire company. This is his first job and he realizes that his responsibilities are overwhelming at times. His reports are an important component of the company’s business, and part of the CFO’s work relies on it. On several instances he has found errors in his reports, and decided to only revise and report those errors he believes to be critical. Small errors, on the other hand, are not as important to require reporting according to him. The case however suggests that Ben is also considering whether or not he should in fact overlook the small errors, which is what I will attempt to answer in this critical thinking analysis. Ben’s position to disregard small errors is understandable in some aspects. In fact, as a newly hired, in his first job, he must be proud of being given such job with great responsibilities. Submitting frequent revisions due to small errors, will make him look incompetent, unreliable, and jeopardize his job. This could mean running the risk of being fired or demoted. What Is the Skewness of an Exponential Distribution

Common parameters for probability distribution include the mean and standard deviation. The mean gives a measurement of the center and the standard deviation tells how spread out the distribution is. In addition to these well-known parameters, there are others that draw attention to features other than the spread or the center. One such measurement is that of skewness. Skewness gives a way to attach a numerical value to the asymmetry of a distribution.​ One important distribution that we will examine is the exponential distribution. We will see how to prove that the skewness of an exponential distribution is 2. Exponential Probability Density Function We begin by stating the probability density function for an exponential distribution. These distributions each have a parameter, which is related to the parameter from the related Poisson process. We denote this distribution as Exp(A), where A is the parameter. The probability density function for this distribution is: f(x) e-x/A/A, where x is nonnegative. Here e is the mathematical constant e that is approximately 2.718281828. The mean and standard deviation of the exponential distribution Exp(A) are both related to the parameter A. In fact, the mean and standard deviation are both equal to A. Definition of Skewness Skewness is defined by an expression related to the third moment about the mean. This expression is the expected value: E[(X – ÃŽ ¼)3/ÏÆ'3] (E[X3] – 3ÃŽ ¼ E[X2] 3ÃŽ ¼2E[X] – ÃŽ ¼3)/ÏÆ'3 (E[X3] – 3ÃŽ ¼(ÏÆ'2 – ÃŽ ¼3)/ÏÆ'3. We replace ÃŽ ¼ and ÏÆ' with A, and the result is that the skewness is E[X3] / A3 – 4. All that remains is to calculate the third moment about the origin. For this we need to integrate the following: ∠«Ã¢Ë†Å¾0 x 3 f(x) dx. This integral has an infinity for one of its limits. Thus it can be evaluated as a type I improper integral. We also must determine what integration technique to use. Since the function to integrate is the product of a polynomial and exponential function, we would need to use integration by parts. This integration technique is applied several times. The end result is that: E[X3] 6A3 We then combine this with our previous equation for the skewness. We see that the skewness is 6 – 4 2. Implications It is important to note that the result is independent of the specific exponential distribution that we start with. The skewness of the exponential distribution does not rely upon the value of the parameter A. Furthermore, we see that the result is a positive skewness. This means that the distribution is skewed to the right. This should come as no surprise as we think about the shape of the graph of the probability density function. All such distributions have y-intercept as 1//theta and a tail that goes to the far right of the graph, corresponding to high values of the variable x. Alternate Calculation Of course, we should also mention that there is another way to calculate skewness. We can utilize the moment generating function for the exponential distribution. The first derivative of the moment generating function evaluated at 0 gives us E[X]. Similarly, the third derivative of the moment generating function when evaluated at 0 gives us E(X3].

Hotel Rwanda, released in December of 2004, is based on the true story on the life of Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager of Hotel des Mille Collines, who saved the lives of 1,268 people in the face of genocide. This movie is based on the true events of the Rwandan Genocide in 1994 that occurred in Kigali, the capital and largest city of Rwanda in Africa. It touches upon when the Hutu extremists of Rwanda initiated an act of genocide on thousands of the minority group, Tutsis. This movie was directed/written by Terry George and Keir Pearson. Major cast include Don Cheadle (Paul Rusesabagina), Sophie Okonedo (Tatiana), Joaquin Phoenix (Jack), and Nick Nolte (Colonel Oliver of the UN). Toward the beginning of the movie, after the attacks begin in Paul’s neighborhood, a large group of other Tutsis neighbors are hiding in the Rusesabagina home. Hutu armies come to kill all the ‘cockroaches’ in his home, including his wife and kids. At first, Paul offers bribes of money and alcohol to save only his family, but later offers almost triple the amount of money for the whole group, including expensive jewels. This is only one of the first scenes that Paul bribes armies to avoid the killing of those he is protecting. With the character of Rusesabagina, the filmmaker portrayed him as a humble man, with no inconstancies in any of his actions. This goes along with the purpose of the film, which was to show the actions of a hero, who saved thousands from genocide. The main antagonists of the film would be the Hutu. There are many legislative requirements (laws), and codes of practice (directives and professional ethics) that need to be considered in a learning environment. My organisation has its own policies and proceedures that are applicable to the particular environment; these underpin the legislation to act according to the law as defined in an Act of Parliament and usually enforceable through the courts. My interpretation of ones that will effect me as a teacher are given here. The Health and Safely at Work Act (1974) Everyone has a responsibility for their own safety at work and also a duty to protect the safety and welfare of others, this effects every single organisation. Even if the learners are adults there are still rules and regulations that must be adhered to; As a teacher I need to be fully aware of these rules and ensure that any learners I teach are too. I should always make the class aware of the nearest fire exists and advise of who the fist-aiders are within the building. I must always follow best practise and to lead by example. Risk Assessments are also the responsibility of the teacher in order to establish practices that minimise risk and record any high risk activities. I need to analyse any potential risks when instructing activities within the class. It is my responsibility to assess any risk levels prior to commencement of any tasks in order to minimise the risks. If there are any accidents or incidents, I must also keep a record of these. There are then the legislations that are drawn from the Human Rights Act 2000. Disability Discrimination Act (1995 and 2005) Equality Act 2010 Teachers must respect these laws have been passed to ensure that no one is discriminated against irrespective of any disability (physical or mental) they may have or their gender, age, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation or marital status/domestic circumstances.
