The title of this essay is very heavily weighted for me as the short time I piddle been studying personal centred therapy I can honestly say it has turned my intent upside surmount. I am going to explain the scheme of person-to-person Centred Counselling and then explain how the practice of this has massively impacted my life. The in-person Centred approach was developed by Carl Rogers (1902-1987) He has completely changed the case of counselling from the old school Freudian way of thinking, which was that the persevering was noisome and needed the authoritive analysis that the therapists where exalted upon their patients Hall (1997:1). Carl Rogers regulate it beautifully himself (1961:11&12) that it is the invitee who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what pr oblems are crucial, what experiences cause been deeply bury Thus the patient who is sick in the head becomes the client who has all the answers to their problems buried inside. The private Centred approach is broken down into three core conditions; Empathy, vapid Positive Regard and Congruence.
Empathy is a word that is bandied about instead carelessly, in todays society people will say they are empathic quite freely without facial expression at the actual deeper meaning of the word. In fact I did before this course, it was one of the qualities I would have listed proudly in a job intervie w situation. If asked before my studies I ! would have said empathy was feeling someone elses pain or understanding what they are going through.
